A group of young people have met in Darwin to discuss with government key issues affecting their communities.
The Northern Territory Youth Roundtable offers young people from diverse backgrounds an opportunity to advise Minister for Youth Jinson Charls, other government stakeholders, industry professionals, and community members on ways to tackle the challenges they face.

Among the topics discussed: education, employment, youth justice, and the environment. “Young people are an important part of our community and are our future leaders. It’s essential we provide them with forums like the Youth Round Table to have their say and influence change,” said Charls.
The 22 members also raised concerns around housing affordability, cost of living, mental health, domestic violence, and substance use.
“I had some very interesting discussions with them about what they see as the current challenges and their ideas on how we can overcome them,” Charls said.
As well as meeting with Charls and other government representatives, throughout the year the 22 members of the roundtable will participate in a number of community activities and projects designed to develop their leadership skills.
Aged 15 to 23, the delegation will meet in person three more times this year and participate in additional virtual meetings.
“I’m looking forward to building on these relationships throughout the year and hearing more about how we can work together, along with industry professionals and community partners, to bring to life some of the creative and strategic initiatives they have in mind,” Charls said.
