NT govt invites public sector feedback

The Northern Territory Government is inviting public sector employees to take part in a survey to improve workplaces and service delivery.

The 2025 People Matter Survey opened on Monday 18 August and closes on 5 September. Twenty-nine NT public sector organisations are participating – including government-owned corporations and independent entities such as the Electoral Commission and ICAC.

“This is your chance to share your thoughts honestly and confidentially about what it’s like to work in the sector,” said NT Commissioner for Employment Nicole Hurwood in a YouTube video. “Whether it’s about leadership, culture, wellbeing, or the support you receive in your role, your voice truly matters.”

Held biennially, the survey measures how public sector staff feel about their workplace – including job satisfaction, leadership and communication – and highlights strengths, identifies areas for improvement, and tracks progress over time.

This isn’t a box-ticking exercise.

“The results will help us create safer, healthier, and more supportive workplaces across the NT public sector, which ultimately means better services and outcomes for Territorians,” said Minister for Public Service Jo Hersey.

This is the first public sector survey since the CLP Government came into power in August 2024. “I am eager to see what we are doing right and what needs improvement,” Hersey said.

Once the insights have been analysed, later this year the Office of the Commissioner for Public Employment will release a whole-of-sector report, individual agency reports, and a response plan. Agencies will then be required to develop internal action plans and manage workforce communications.

“This survey isn’t a box-ticking exercise,” Hersey said. “It’s about listening to staff and using their feedback to deliver real change in our agencies.”
