Melbourne to get new 15,000-home suburb

Approval has been given for the commencement of construction of a new suburb in Melbourne’s outer north, to be known as Beveridge North West.

The area, to be developed according to the Beveridge North West Precinct Structure Plan, will eventually see the building of 15,000 new homes, four town centres, eight schools and 13 MCGs’ worth of parks and reserves.

“This new suburb will be home to around 47,000 Victorians — because we’ve unlocked the land for thousands of new homes as well as schools, parks, and community hubs,” said Minister for Planning, Sonya Kilkenny.

According to the Victorian Government, once complete the area will be home to more than 47,000 people and support nearly 3,000 local jobs.

More than 320 hectares of land have been allocated for waterways, landscaping and drainage, including 79 hectares of dedicated parks and sports fields.

The suburb will be built in stages, with the first stage to comprise 2,400 homes built on 140 hectares.

The Beveridge North West Precinct Structure Plan is part of the Government’s 10-year greenfields plan, which, it says, will deliver 180,000 new homes over the next decade.
