Councils invited to provide workforce feedback

The national peak for local government is inviting councils across Australia to participate in a workforce survey.

“Your voice is important in building the evidence base, so we encourage you to complete the 2025 LG Skills and Workforce Survey,” says the Australian Local Government Association.

The nationwide survey – the third of its kind – is conducted in partnership with Public Skills Australia. Funded by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, PSA works with all tiers of government to identify workforce pressures and potential skills shortages across the sector.

“This information will help councils to strengthen workforce planning, support the pipeline of workers needed to meet future demands, and create a strong long-term analysis of our workforce needs,” says ALGA.

Starting this week, a series of workshops is also being held with councils to map skill requirements by linking current and future services with roles, and identifying the capabilities required. Barriers to accessing and using vocational education and training, as well as opportunities to improve training pathways, will also be explored.

The workshops will visit:

  • Cairns – 16 September
  • Adelaide – 24 September
  • Busselton – 7 October
  • Perth – 8 October
  • Rockhampton – 13 October
  • Townsville – 14 October
  • Melbourne – 10 November.

More workshop dates will be released in the coming weeks. For more information, contact alga@alga.asn.au.
