Geoscape partners with Israeli AI startup

The Public Sector Mapping Agency has partnered with an Israeli AI startup as it moves to enhance its 3D digital maps.

The company, GeoX, specialises in the use of artificial intelligence and deep learning to create 3D objects from aerial images.

GeoX says its technology represents a huge leap forward for PSMA, which trades as Geoscape Australia and is tasked with co-ordinating, assembling and delivering national spatial databases.

Geoscape has mapped all buildings and land cover across Australia and CEO Dean Capobianco says the partnership with GeoX will produce more accurate digital models of the urban environment.

“By applying GeoX’s patented AI technology to aerial imagery we’ll significantly evolve our digital model of Australia,” he said in a statement.

The technology will lead to digital twin applications that better reflect the real world, Mr Capobianco says.

He says it improve risk assessment and help architects visualise developments in the context of their surroundings, and better understand factors like noise impacts and energy use patterns.

“Advanced information about the built environment, on a national scale, can drive efficiency, cost reduction, insight and revenue generation across many sectors of the economy, including insurance, property development, energy and telecommunications,” Mr Capobianco said.

Using GeoX’s, technology Geoscape will be able to remap more than 10 million buildings and recapture and enhance all remaining buildings across the country,  he said.

GeoX CEO Izik Lavy says Geoscape’s digital Australia is one of the most extensive and advanced projects of its kind in the world.

“By leveraging our tech and Geoscape’s continuous data processing capability, every organisation in Australia could access reliable and advanced property data,” he said.

Geoscape data is used to generate insights across the insurance, architecture, engineering and construction, telecommunications, energy and emergency services sectors and is available through APIs, a self-service portal and a network of partners.
