‘Toolbox’ to help councils see the light

By Staff Writer

ICLEI Oceania, in partnership with the Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO) in the Department of the Environment and Water Resources, has launched a new online resource for councils across Australia – a Sustainable Public Lighting Toolbox.

The website collates a variety of information and materials that had previously been difficult to access and posed a significant challenge for those new to the area of public lighting.

“Our hope is obviously that the Sustainable Public Lighting Toolbox will enable councils to take action on public lighting, thereby reducing their greenhouse gas emissions,” said, ICLEI Oceania’s public lighting manager, Gabrielle Breen.

“It’s an area in which there is huge potential for both environmental and financial gains,” she said.

The Sustainable Public Lighting Toolbox is a ‘one-stop-shop’ designed to accelerate the uptake of sustainable public lighting and enable councils to:

• access guidelines, tools and case studies, and technological information
• share information with other active councils and regions
• find state-specific information about public lighting regulations and energy markets
• keep up-to-date with sustainable public lighting developments
