QLD councillors issued with info kits

The Local Government Association of Queensland is providing all the state’s councillors with an Induction Kit containing a Councillor Handbook, a Guide to Good Governance and critical information on elected member remuneration and expense entitlements.

LGAQ president, Cr Paul Bell, emphasised the importance of mayors and councillors being provided with the latest and most accurate information on local government systems.

“The LGAQ has an obligation to help educate and inform our elected front-line community representatives,” Cr Bell said.

A Mayoral Handbook written by the association’s executive director, Greg Hallam, will be provided to all Queensland’s mayors.

The Handbook includes first-hand tips from experienced mayors and is the first of its kind to be produced in Australia according to the association.

The Information in the various handbooks and guides are complemented by the LGAQ’s online website LGOnline the Association says.

LGOnline provides elected members with access to legislative commentary, legal opinions, media monitors, the state government’s online information and ABS statistics for their council areas.

We provide all the basic information tools to enable elected members to maximise their contributions. They are the best-supported elected members in Australia,” Cr Bell said.
