Mildura tourism boss joins local government

The head of Mildura’s peak economic and tourism organisation has been appointed to a new job with Mildura Council.

Peter Alexander

Peter Alexander, who oversaw economic and tourism development in the Sunraysia region as CEO of Mildura Regional Growth, will take on a new role as General Manager Strategy and Growth at Mildura Rural City Council.

He’ll be responsible for strategic and statutory planning; arts, culture and venues; future planning, economic development and tourism in his new position.

Mr Alexander has had a 20 year career as an executive and strategic leader responsible for marketing, finance and business growth across a range of sectors.

He’s held senior executive roles including with global trucking company IVECO, Subaru and Polaris Industries.

Mr Alexander also provided executive coaching and management consultancy services before moving to Mildura in 2022.

Mildura Council’s CEO Martin Hawson said Mr Alexander was the ideal candidate to lead the new department, which was one of the key actions to come out of Council’s Organisational Sustainabilty Review.

“Peter’s vast and varied experience in the corporate sector, combined with his most recent role with Mildura Regional Development, positions him well to lead a team responsible for the strategic growth of our community and our region,” Mr Hawson said in a statement.

Mr Alexander begins his new job on October 23.
