Public transport operator Transit Systems will welcome Michael McGee as its new CEO next month.
Mr McGee takes over from outgoing Chief Operating Officer Greg Balkin on December 12, with the role repositioned as CEO to reflect what the company says is new potential in Australian transport.
In his new role Mr McGee will be responsible for strategic direction and all operations of Transit System businesses, including Go West, newly acquired Horizons West and RiverCity Ferries.
He will also oversee Australia’s largest electric bus fleet along with the country’s first two hydrogen buses that are soon to be deployed into service.
Mr McGee, who was previously CEO for transport sector data and analytics software company netBI, has held senior positions on the public transport, financial services, technology and logistics sectors.
In a statement, he said he was passionate about driving sustainability, innovation and growth.
“There is a tremendous opportunity for growth in the sector and I am thrilled to be on the team,” Mr McGee said.
“Given the state of play with sustainability commitments in public transit, it’s an especially exciting time to join Transit Systems, making a real difference to help government partners deliver on zero emission transport targets.”
Kelsian Group CEO Clint Feuerherdt said Mr McGee had the experience needed to deliver operational excellence across public buses, education transport and the resource sector.
Transit Systems, part of the Kelsian Group, works under contract to governments to deliver public urban transport services.
Kelsian last month announced the acquisition of bus line Horizon’s West, which currently operates 21 contracts for the WA government.
