Sunshine Coast simplifies approvals

Changes to planning conditions under Sunshine Coast Council will make development approvals easier to understand.

Recipients of planning approvals will work with a reduced number of conditions and simplified language following a council review in assessing development applications.

Director Development Services, Julie Edwards said conditions now express simple, unambiguous and clear statements regarding the development obligations imposed on the applicant.

Ms Edwards said the council has rationalized the number of conditions applied and made the obligations contained within the conditions easier to understand.

“Planning conditions take into account a range of issues such as environmental impacts, noise levels, traffic and infrastructure,” Ms Edwards said.

According to Ms Edwards, all developments are required to comply with conditions.

She said the conditions remain firm on the important policy requirements contained in the planning scheme.

The general community and members of the development industry were given the chance to provide their feedback on the revised conditions, Ms Edwards said.

This review of planning approval processes precedes works that are being prepared for future applications submitted in the Maroochydore, Palmview, Sippy Downs and Kawana Master Plan areas.

“The new conditions are now being used and apply to Material Change of Use and Reconfiguring of Lot applications such as unit developments, shopping centres and residential land subdivision,” Ms Edwards said.

She said operational works approvals are expected to receive a similar review, which will be finalized over the next six months.
