Perth Hills bushfire appeal

Lord Mayor of Perth Lisa Scaffidi has launched an appeal to help victims of the Perth Hills bushfires.

At least 68 homes in the Roleystone and Kelmscott were destroyed in the fires that started on Sunday. The number is expected to increase as assessment teams move through affected areas.

Cr Scaffidi said she was shocked by the impact of the bushfires.

“The fires demonstrate clearly how people’s lives can change dramatically when events such as this happen,” she said in a statement.

“Most people would be shocked by the weekend’s events and through the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund they can help those people who are suffering now and who face such a big job in rebuilding or cleaning up after the fires are extinguished.

Cr Scaffidi said the appeal, run by an independent board, allowed assistance to be dispensed rapidly.
