The NSW government has been named Australia’s most popular graduate employer.

The state government topped the Australian Financial Review’s Top 100 Graduate Employers list for its 18 month graduate program, which began in 2016 and has since provided a career start for more than 800 people.

The program took in 182 graduates last year and 150 this year, across Sydney and regional NSW and in all disciplines.

Public service minister Don Harwin said the graduate program has played a key role in building a diverse, world class public service.

NSW Public Service Commissioner Kathrina Lo said the award reflected the work that has gone into making the program a success.

“By offering roles in regional and metropolitan areas, opportunities for further study and a legal stream for graduates wanting a legal career – we can offer graduates a rich and diverse experience they won’t get elsewhere,” Ms Lo said.

The NSW Government Graduate Program also won the Most Popular Government and Defence Employer Award for the fourth year running.

Finalists included the Queensland Government, the Victorian Government, Defence, Transport for NSW, the ATO, ASIC and Services Australia.

Applications for 2022 open in July.
