In a first for South Australian Council elections, the Local Government Association, with assistance from the State Government, has produced a new website where all 1274 candidates can campaign.
The webpage will be a promotional space for all candidates in the November elections, featuring photographs and short profiles. The website, www.lgcandidates.sa.gov.au, will go live from October 5.
LGA chief executive, Wendy Campana, said the website allows voters to view candidate profiles ahead of the election, rather than receiving the details with ballot packs.
“Candidates will also have the opportunity to go online and add relevant election material to complement the mandatory information,” Ms Campana said.
“This could be Twitter and Facebook contacts, or attachments to other relevant information which will be checked to ensure it complies with legislated conditions.
“An informed electorate is able to make better choices.”
Candidates have until 5pm today to register their Candidate Statements on the website.
