New appointment to Moira Shire administrator panel

Graeme Emonson will be appointed as Chairperson of Moira Shire Council’s panel of administrators until 2028.

Dr Graeme Emonson

Dr Emonson, who currently serves as a panel member, will replace John Tanner who steps down from the role on 10 June 2024.

Dr Emonson was formerly Deputy Secretary, Corporate Services at Victoria’s Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.

The panel has so far supported the appointment of an ongoing CEO, the development of a MoU with the health and education sectors and ongoing implementation of recommendations from a Commission of Inquiry which found significant failures of governance at Moira Shire.

The state government appointed the panel in June 2023, after Council was sacked in March in response to the commission’s findings.

The panel will remain until the October 2028 local government elections to ensure good governance is restored, local government minister Melissa Horne says.

“I have full faith Dr Emonson will continue this work to move Moira Shire Council forward,” she said in a statement.

“Councils must faithfully represent the communities they serve.”
