Grants for women in government

By Staff Writer

Women in government have been reminded to submit their applications for the 2010 Women’s Leadership Grants.

Launched at the 2009 Premier’s Women’s Summit in Melbourne last month, the $500,000 grants program aims to increase the capacity of women to participate in decision making and leadership opportunities, increase diversity among Victoria’s female leaders and promote the achievements of women in civic and political life.

Minister for Women’s Affairs Maxine Morand said the Government was determined to purse equal participation of the women in positions of leadership.

“Since 2001, we have increased the proportion of women on government boards and committees from 31 per cent to 40 per cent,” Ms Morand.

“However, we want to go further and are now working towards a target of 50 per cent of women as new appointments to Government boards and committees.”
