Free websites for flood-affected councils

Domain name orgasnisation, au domain Administration (auDA) has offered mayors, council CEOs and relevant disaster and management recovery authorities, free websites.

The not-for-profit organisation has released a series of free websites for communities affected by recent flooding throughout Victoria.

This initiative follows auDA’s creation and release of fourteen websites for flood-affected Queensland communities last week.

auDA hopes that, during such difficult times, these sites will help communities recover, rebuild and heal, by providing for: the communication of community events and news; the provision of links to important information; and the sharing of stories.

The websites already created include: warracknabeal.vic.au; rochester.vic.au; kerang.vic.au; warracknabeal.vic.au.

These websites were created and registered using ‘Community Geographic Domain Names’, an initiative launched by auDA in 2006, that reserves names in the format place.state.au for the exclusive use of local communities.

auDA put in place a similar program directly after the 2009 Victorian Bushfires, to help with recovery and rebuilding efforts.
