Construction giant launches renewables and energy business

Infrastructure and engineering company John Holland is aiming for a slice of the growing clean energy pipeline with the recent launch of a new renewables and energy business.

The company says with the commonwealth government’s target of 43 per cent reduction in emissions by 2030, and investment in energy infrastructure set to hit $80 billion over the next 15 years, the market is bigger than ever before.

Australia also leads the world in pumped hydro energy storage, a market Infrastructure Australia has identified as crucial to meeting renewable energy targets, John Holland says.

John Holland is no stranger to the energy and transmission market. I’s past works have included the Snowy hydro scheme and most recently it delivered Australia’s second biggest pumped hydro plant in Kidston west of Rockhampton for listed company Genex.

The company late last year appointed former infrastructure and major projects precontracts manager Norman Lovemore to lead the energy and transmission focus.

It comes as John Holland last month forecast stronger profits in 2023 after a series of losses linked to Melbourne’s Metro Tunnel and West Gate Tunnel projects, as well as a protracted legal dispute with the WA government over the Perth Children’s Hospital.
