City of Sydney library adds more art and cultural deals

Art lovers will be able to access a range of deals and discounts from the City of Sydney Library during spring and summer this year.

Dubbed ‘Look Who’s Joined The Library’, the benefits program gives library members deals for free entry, discounted tickets and special friends rates to the Sydney Dance Company, Musica Viva, Metro Screen, NSW Writers’ Centre, the Song Company and the Sydney Arts Management Advisory Group.

David Sharman, library manager at the City of Sydney, NSW, said the Library’s always looking for interesting ways to market itself to the public.

“We feel this works both for the organisations offering the deals and the library itself because our members are the type of people who enjoy going to going such places in Sydney,” he said.

Sharma said the program started in the winter of 2008 and the Library has worked with a number of cultural organisations around the City including; Sydney Film Festival; Sydney Theatre Company; Sydney Observatory; Griffith Theatre; and Sydney Theatre for Young People.

“We change the organisation we work with bi-annually and we’re always on the lookout for new members to join the program,” he said.

“The Library’s interested in anyone that fits into the profile of being an arts and cultural establishment based in Sydney.”

The Library was based in the centre of the City and any art or cultural program – in terms of location – has to be relevant for its users, Sharma said.
