ATO renews $86m cyber deal with Macquarie Government

The Australian Taxation Office has renewed its deal with Macquarie Government for cyber security, sovereign data centre and cloud services.

Happy: Aidan Tudehope

The deal, running until 2025 and worth a total of $86.1 million, includes triaging cyberattacks and inspecting internet traffic, as well as the provision of secure internet gateway (SIG) services.

Macquarie says its Security Operations Centre will provide the ATO with a full inspection of internet flows, content, and images in line with the Government’s Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and Information Security Manual (ISM) controls.

Managing director Aidan Tudehope says Macquarie Government is pleased to be playing an ongoing role in keeping the ATO secure.

“We’re proud to play a key role in keeping one of Australia’s most fundamental government agencies secure, at a time when Australians are looking for greater assurance their critical government data and the institutions that store and protect it are fully secure,” he said in a statement.

Last December Macquarie became the first company in Australia to have its cloud and data centre services ‘Certified Strategic’ by the Digital Transformation Agency.

Macquarie Government says it provides SIG and other cyber security services to around 42 per cent of the Federal Government based on staff headcount.

Macquarie inked the original agreement, worth $20 million, with the ATO in 2019. The extension of the contract, as well as additional add-ons since 2019, have added $66 million to the value of the deal.
