Thirteen council projects across Victoria have been selected to share in $2 million in state government funding in an effort to reduce waste and boost recycling.
The money comes from the third round of the Circular Economy Councils Fund, with the projects aiming to divert more than 22,000 tonnes of waste from landfill and repurpose more than 27,000 tonnes of recyclable goods and material.
Projects include a Yarra Ranges Shire textiles collection program, a trailer with reusable crockery to help reduce single-use items at community events on the Mornington Peninsula, and a mobile mulch maker in Murrindindi.
In addition, a number of re-use shops be set up locations across the state, including Cobram, Nurmurkah, Myrtleford, Romsey and Kyneton.
All up, the projects will create 11 long-term and 40 short-term jobs.
The Victorian Government has a goal of diverting 80% of waste from landfill by 2030. The Circular Economy Councils Fund has so far awarded a total of $5.85 million to support 66 projects that are keeping more than 100,000 tonnes of material out of landfill.
