Former Barwon Water and City of Port Phillip CEO Tracey Slatter has been appointed to head up Victoria’s Transport Accident Commission (TAC).

The government-owned commission is the statutory insurer of third-party personal liability for road accidents in the state, and works with road safety partners to reduce deaths and injury.

Ms Slatter, a former senior executive in the Victorian public service, takes up her new role as TAC chief executive officer on July 3, taking the reins from Joe Calafiore.

Road safety minister Melissa Horne said she looked forward to working with Ms Slatter in achieving the government’s targets of a fifty per cent reduction in road deaths by by 2030 and zero road deaths by 2050.

“I am thrilled to welcome Tracey Slatter to the role of CEO at the TAC – I am confident that her leadership will help the organisation continue to deliver exceptional outcomes,” the minister said.

Ms Slatter worked as Head of Claims at the TAC for four years and is well known in the social insurance sector.

She serves on the boards on the boards of the Institute of Public Administration Australia (Victoria) and Water Services Association of Australia and is Deputy Chair of the Barwon Regional Partnership.

Barwon Water announced Ms Slatter’s resignation earlier this week, saying she had led the organisation through transformational change since her appointment in January 2017.

During her time with the water authority, Ms Slatter was responsible for leading the Barwon Water Strategy2030 and forged strong relationships with traditional owners and First Nations Australians,  Chair Jo Plummer said.
