Suspending the air for fleets

New South Wales-based Eurobodalla Shire Council has introduced Firestone Rite-Rite supplementary air suspension kits from All Air Suspension for its diverse range of fleet vehicles.

The products will be used where the Council’s Fords, Holdens and Nissans have to cope with heavy and changing loads encountered during maintenance, construction and water services work.

The workshops of the Council, which also services the vehicles of complementary organsations such as Eurobodalla Water, face the same challenges as many trades, building, farm and mine site vehicles.

Water Operator Dave Shilliagnlaw said without the right suspension setups for heavy and varying loads (such as trailers, pump generators or a tank being progressively emptied in spraying operations), such vehicles can experience a host of problems that compromise safety immediately – and can ultimately wreck the vehicle involved.

“We carry lots of different types of loads and tow heavy trailers too, with big generators for pumps and all sorts of different gear,” he said.

“The total loads carried from day to day are always going up and down, so you need to be able to adjust the suspension for the load.”

Eurobodalla Shire Council Workshop Supervisor Mr Brad Constable says the Ride-Rite kits are really easy to fit and produce an immediate improvement.

“Previously the one-tonners would die in the rear when they had to carry a lot of weight,” he says.

“Now we can overcome the problem by using the kits – and they are easy to swap around vehicles if you want to.”
