TechnologyOne will help City of Melbourne manage its budget anywhere, anytime

TechnologyOne is helping the City of Melbourne move one of its key finance applications from an on-premise environment to a cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) platform, a move the company says will strengthen the cyber security of Australia’s second largest city and help support its economic recovery.

The council of the City of Melbourne has an annual budget of more than $600 million. Prior to March last year, it was the fastest growing municipality in Australia. But COVID-19, and, in particular, the months of lockdown in the second half of the year, had a greater effect in Victoria than elsewhere.

The City of Melbourne moved swiftly to support business and continue delivering essential services in response to COVID-19. It invested $188 million in rapid response initiatives designed to support ratepayers, strengthen the community and rebuild the local economy.

TechnologyOne says the Council, a customer since 2008, is taking a two-stage approach to moving its finance operations to SaaS. It will first move existing applications to the cloud before upgrading to TechnologyOne’s purpose-built SaaS solution, CI Anywhere, by the end of the year.

Edward Chung, Chief Executive Officer of TechnologyOne, said the move will deliver significant benefits.

“The first and most obvious advantage to the City of Melbourne will come from freeing up resources. The second is in increased resilience and flexibility and there are clear cybersecurity advantages in SaaS. Trust in government is at an all-time high after the last twelve months, it’s important that trust is maintained,” he said.

“If there is one comment we’ve heard from customers over and over it is that 2020 drove home the value of SaaS. We’ve worked with hundreds of customers through their digital transformation journey and the outcome for them is a more efficient, stronger and agile future,” Mr Chung said.

“Ten years ago our vision was to enable our customers to work on any device anywhere at any time and our global SaaS ERP continues to deliver this,” Mr Chung said.

TechnologyOne is Australia’s leading enterprise software company, partnering with local councils around AUS, NZ and the UK for 33 years.
