New community engagement protocol for ACT public service

The ACT Government has developed a new community engagement protocol to promote the adoption of a more participatory approach to engaging with the community.

Following feedback from the community, the Government drafted the new guidelines Engaging Canberrans – A Guide to Community Engagement.

An ACT Government spokesperson said there was a need to improve engagement techniques in particular areas and a desire within the community for a wider conversation about the future of Canberra.

“The ACT Government is committed to engaging Canberrans more effectively and is continually looking at ways to make our processes more effective,” he said.

“The new engagement protocols are released at a time when the government is under taking the Time to Talk community engagement project hat utilises social media, conventional ‘face-to-face’ consultation and a comprehensive outreach program taking place in schools, shopping centres and community events.”

The protocol will be used as a source document for ongoing community engagement training for ACT Government staff.

Peak bodies, community groups and the community will be invited to provide feedback on the draft community engagement protocol from October 7.
