Gail Connolly, Georges River Council General Manager, said that almost half of the Georges River population, 42 per cent, were born in countries where English is not their first language.

“Multiculturalism is something we celebrate here at Georges River, and Council is proud of our work with and for our multicultural communities,” she said in a statement.

“Inclusion and participation of diverse communities is something we consider when planning and delivering our services, including our communications.”

2021 In Good Taste was Council’s inaugural month-long food festival that featured bush tucker walks, local tasting tours, cooking demonstrations and the Little Lunar new year celebration.

The campaign aired in multiple languages on TV and radio and featured in print and online media coverage, reaching over 20 million people.

The languages included English, Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian and Vietnamese.

The NSW Premier’s Multicultural Communications Awards recognise excellence in the multicultural media and marketing industry.

Georges River Council was the only NSW council recognised in this year’s awards.

“As the only NSW council recognised in the Awards, this is a fantastic achievement and I congratulate Council’s Communications and Engagement Team for their commitment to serving our diverse community,” Ms Connolly said.
