New chair, directors for Destination NSW
John WarnJohn Warn has been appointed chair of the Destination NSW board.
Currently chair of Cricket NSW and an executive with Scentre Group, Mr Warn has previously held several senior roles in corporate Australia including at David Jones.
The NSW Government also announced the appointment of two new board members, Sally Loane and George Souris.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall welcomed Mr Warn’s appointment, saying he would bring valuable experience to the role ensuring Destination NSW continued on its path of achieving the government’s goal of doubling overnight visitor expenditure by 2020.
Mr Marshall thanked retiring chair John Hartigan, who held the position for the last four years, and Wendy Machin, who has stood down after seven years as a director.
Sally Loane is an experienced executive who has worked in media, financial services, food and beverage manufacturing, professional sport and community organisations.
George Souris is an experienced elected official in both local and state government where he occupied numerous portfolios including Minister for Tourism and Major Events.
Russell Balding, David Baffsky and Margaret Jack were all reappointed to the board for a further four years.
LGA Tasmania reappoints CEO
Dr Katrena Stephenson has been re-appointed as CEO of the Local Government Association of Tasmania for a further five years.
Dr Stephenson was first appointed to the position in June 2015 and was the first female CEO in the association’s 100-year history.
She was recently named as one of Tasmania’s most influential women by the Mercury Newspaper.
The association said the reappointment was made following an independent performance review that engaged a wide range of stakeholders.
“The feedback on Katrena’s performance was overwhelmingly positive and the general management committee of LGAT were unanimous in agreeing her re-appointment” said LGAT president, Mayor Doug Chipman.
Dr Stephenson said she looked forward to the challenges of working with association members, the State Government and other stakeholders, to further progress local government in the state.
Nick Mitzevich appointed director of the National Gallery
The Turnbull Government has appointed Nick Mitzevich as the director of the National Gallery of Australia.
Mr Mitzevich is currently the director of the Art Gallery of South Australia and previously led three galleries, including as director of the University of Queensland Art Museum and the former Newcastle Region Art Gallery.
He commences his five-year appointed at the National Gallery in July.
Mr Mitzevich was previously chair of the Council of Australian Art Museum Directors and has served on the Board of Governors of the Helpmann Academy.
Communications Minister Mitch Fifield said Mr Mitzevich had a reputation for driving innovation and working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders in the private and public sectors. His experience, energy and vision would ensure that the NGA continues to provide all Australians with access to rich cultural experiences, Mr Fifield said.
The minister thanked outgoing director, Dr Gerard Vaughan, for his service to the NGA since 2014.
New division head for project management firm
Project management firm Donald Cant Watts Corke has announced the appointment of Michael Chant as a new director in Canberra, heading up the project management division for the ACT office.
Mr Chant has over 15 years of project management experience, delivering successful projects in the built environment for government and other sectors.
Mr Chant has worked on major projects for the ACT Department of Health, the Murray Darling Basin Authority, the Department of Defence and New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The firm’s group managing director Glenn Corke said Mr Chant brought a great amount of depth and breadth to the new project management portfolio in Canberra.
