Telecommunications and cloud hosting company, Macquarie Telecom has been selected to provide the fourth data centre site in the ACT on the Australian Government Information Management Office’s (AGIMO) Data Centre Facilities Panel.

As one of two proposed data centre locations, the Intellicentre 4 (IC4) site will be an addition to IC1 and IC2 providing data centre facilities to all government agencies under the Financial Management and Accountability Act (FMA Act).

An IC3 second stage data centre at its Sydney-based North Ryde campus where the $60 million IC2 site is located will also be built to provide “future capacity”.

Macquarie Telecom managing director for hosting, Aidan Tudehope said the inclusion of IC4 on the Data Centre Facilities Panel will enable the company to “actively canvass” the government market for foundation customers to serve the growing demand for reliable and secure onshore data centre capacity.

“IC4 is a key element within the significant investments plans we have developed to support our growing government business in Canberra,” Mr Tudehope said.

According to Mr Tudehope, the plans for Intellicentre 4 (IC4) data centre will have a minimum of 4MW and 2000sqm of data halls

These data halls will incorporate the “highly energy efficient” design specifications for the DA-approved site, Mr Tudehope said.

He said robust security and rapid-response reliability of service are “critical” to how government agencies and departments manage their data

“More and more agencies [are] turning to private sector provided onshore data centre environments in which these values are paramount,” he said.

According to Macquarie Telecom, the company is seeking additional anchor tenants for its IC2 data centre in North Ryde, as well as anchor tenants for IC3 and IC4.
