Collaborations between law enforcement and private sector bodies to promote a safer cyberspace for children have seen the Australian Federal Police in a partnership with Datacom.

The IT services company and business process specialist joined ThinkUKnow Australia, a partnership between the AFP and Microsoft, which the UK Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre originally developed in 2006.

The agreement with the CEOP centre and the AFP was for ‘Safer Internet Day’ on 7th February.

AFP assistant commissioner Neil Gaughan said the ThinkUKnow website currently has 3300 online members.

That number has increased by 200 due to the addition of Datacom’s employees as volunteers for the initiative.

Mr Gaughan said the agency has a “strong focus” on collaboration with industry partners around the world.

According to the AFP, Datacom’s expertise as a technical solutions specialist will assist the ThinkUKnow program to improve online bookings and logistics.

This would mean “greater ease and access to the ThinkUKnow program for users”.

Datacom Group CEO, Jonathan Ladd said through the Datacom offices and contact centres across the nation, the support provided will mean that even more parents and carers will have the knowledge to keep children safe online.
