The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, and the Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Senator Penny Wong, has announced that NBN Co has reached agreement for the volume rollout of fibre in South Australia and the Northern Territory.
For the rollout, NBN Co said Syntheo – a joint venture between Lend Lease and Service Stream – will undertake the SA and NT construction of the National Broadband Network.
"Construction of the NBN will soon ramp up to connect tens of thousands of households, schools and businesses across South Australia and the Northern Territory," Senator Wong said.
The contract is worth $141 million over an initial period of two years, with a potential value of up to $341 million if extended for a further two years.
Syntheo was awarded the contract for the fibre network construction in Western Australia in September last year.
"NBN Co has now established a program of construction works in every state and territory in Australia for the NBN rollout," Senator Conroy said.
"Agreement on the South Australian and Northern Territory contract further demonstrates how the Government is getting on with the job of building the
NBN to provide access to high-speed broadband for all Australians."
NBN Co has released its 12-month rollout plan detailing the NBN construction schedule which includes more than 63000 premises in nine communities in South Australia and 22000 premises in two communities in the Northern Territory.
