A number of government agency and private corporation employers took part in exercises in support of their army reservist employees.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator David Feeney, praised 21 employers from across Australia that participated in Exercise Precision Support 2011 in Townsville and Shoalwater Bay Training Area from 30 November to 4 December 2011.

“Exercise Precision Support gives Australian employers an opportunity to work with their Reservist employees on military exercises,” Senator Feeney said.

“During the exercise employers get first hand experience of the type of training that builds confidence, problem solving and leadership skills in the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

“These are transferable skills that are also highly valuable in the civilian workplace.

Senator Feeney said the exercises showcases the skills of the men and women in the ADF and the important contribution to overall ADF capability made by our Reservists.
“This contribution is made possible in part by those civilian employers who support their Reservist employees,” he said.

Exercise Precision Support is part of a series of training exercises for the Airfield Defence Guard.

The Guard are participating in the pre-deployment training of the C-130 flight staff preparing for deployment to the Middle East Area of Operations (MEAO).

The Precision exercises also train both the C -130J Pilots and crew who may also be deployed to the MEAO.

During the exercise employers will participate as civilian evacuees and medical patients within the training scenarios at the Evacuation Handling Centre.

Employers will also undertake weapons handling in the Weapons Training Simulation System and observe an explosive detection dog display.
