NSW Local Government Procurement has worked with procurement consultants, PMMS Consulting Group launch stage two of its procurement roadmap program.

 

The Program was designed specifically to support participating councils in raising the profile and capability of procurement through; assessing and benchmarking procurement practice; and developing individually tailored strategic action plans (Roadmaps).

 

PMMS Consulting Group has worked with both state and local government in Victoria and NSW, delivering procurement capability development programs around the world.

 

The company’s managing consultant, Chris Newman told Government News the PMMS recently worked with three NSW councils; Taree; Port Macquarie; and Ballinger to implement detailed analyses and develop strategies to help drive changes within procurement management.

 

“[These councils] have seen dramatic changes with their purchasing strategy,” he said.

 

“Before implementing a pilot of the roadmap, [the councils] never looked at data on procurement administration and it was never a focus.

 

“For councils, procurement administration often accounts for more than half of its expenditure and was traditionally seen as strategy for cost savings – both internal and external.”

 

Mr Newman said procurement generally wasn’t clearly being understood or focused on as a strategic tool within both public and private sectors.

 

“We recently implemented another pilot for a NSW government agency and its saved millions of dollars on invoicing and processing,” he said.
