The implementation of green IT strategies within the public sector is not hindered by costs, but by an apparent lack of knowledge, the latest readers’ poll has found.
In the recent online poll, Government News readers were asked ‘What’s stopping your organisation from implementing green IT?’
Of the respondents, 25 per cent said they did not know what green IT was and 22 per cent said their organisation did not know enough about green technologies.
There was also scepticism about green IT strategies, with 25 per cent of respondents claiming that it was just “greenwash”.
Other reasons for not implementing green IT included: it’s not a priority within senior management (20 per cent) and it was cost prohibitive (8 per cent).
