Melbourne City Council is one of the six recipients of energy efficiency financing from the Australian Carbon Trust.

Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, Greg Combet, announced on Friday the signing of multi-million dollar financial agreements between the Trust and six major organisations.

The Australia Carbon Trust was established to encourage and promote energy efficiency technology and practices. It provides financing and advice on energy efficiency to public and private organisations.

In the first set of agreements, the Australian Carbon Trust will invest $23.7 million in energy efficiency financing programs with NAB and Eureka Funds Management, Alleasing, Origin Energy, Australia Post and Melbourne City Council.

“These programs will leverage significant private sector finance to achieve cost-effective energy efficiency improvements for Australian businesses both large and small,” Mr Combet said in a statement.

More than 140 public and private sector organisations applied to participate in the Australian Carbon Trust’s Energy Efficiency Program.
