Australian Local Government Association President, Geoff Lake has welcomed the Federal Government’s creation of a non-government roundtable to provide advice on climate change policies, last week.
The roundtable will include leaders from across the community sector, including local government, unions, social services and environmental groups.
It will provide advice to the Government on the introduction of a new carbon price, including issues of household assistance, jobs growth and sustainability surrounding climate change.
Cr Lake told Government News the roundtable was a good thing.
“I’m very pleased the Federal Government will be working with local communities,” he said.
“It’s something that I’ve been working on very closely however I won’t be a part of the roundtable as President of ALGA.”
Cr Lake said his two year term as president of the Association was coming to an end in mid-November.
“I’ll still be involved with local government issues as a councillor,” he said.
When his term ends, Cr Lake will return to full-time work as a lawyer.
