The Gillard Government has returned to power in the 2010 Student Voice youth election.
Created by Google, the mock poll asked around 5000 students aged 15-17 years-old to elect Australia’s next Government. The vote was conducted between August 9-17.
The results, released on Wednesday, showed the ALP won a three-seat majority in the House of Representatives.
The Liberal Party won the overall first preference vote and the Greens held the balance of power in the Senate. It was a big swing to the Greens, with 16 Green Senators elected, matching the ALP.
The student vote was captured in 72 electorates. In the lower house, Labor won 28 seats, the Coalition 25 seats and the Greens 15 seats.
The Christian Democratic Party, Family First, One Nation and Independents all won a seat each.
The Labor vote was strongest in NSW and Victoria, where it won 21 out of 28 seats. The Coalition picked up the most votes in resource-rich states of Queensland and Western Australia.
According to Google, Student Voice was developed as an educational resource for young Australians to experience the democratic process.
