Case Study: Rockdale City Council
Popular southern beachside suburb, Brighton Le Sands, has seen an increase in safety levels after Rockdale City Council contracted SNP Security to install a state-of-the-art CCTV security surveillance system for the local community including myriad cafes, restaurants and retail outlets.
Current CCTV System
Rockdale City Council had in place an existing CCTV security system monitoring the main street precinct; however it was recognised that it had become outdated and the need existed to increase the area covered to include the Boardwalk. It was critical to Rockdale City Council that the businesses and residents of the Brighton Le Sands area be provided with a system that would give them the security and protection they deserved. The previous system had reached its full capacity and was producing poor picture quality which impeded identifying perpetrators of crime.
Affordable, Future-Proofed Solution
In order to minimise the Council’s expenditure, SNP Security was able to re-use some of the existing equipment and overlay it with new technology, creating a ‘future-proof’ and easily-expandable, affordable solution.
“The installation demonstrates that Council's can build a modern system, without discarding all their previous infrastructure investment,” says SNP Managing Director,Tom Roche.
“Most importantly, the overlay approach taken will allow Rockdale City Council to expand or upgrade to meet future needs, quickly and cost effectively".
After identifying that the backbone transmission system was insufficient, SNP installed new AXIS Video Servers (encoders) to convert the analogue camera signals into digital.
The AXIS encoders run H.264 software, which compresses the signal while still maintaining high quality vision. To ensure reliability is maintained, a new Motorola Canopy wireless network was installed to transmit the digital video signal, and relayed to a new wireless receiver located on the top of the Novotel Brighton Le Sands.
Results
“The installation has resulted in the company being able to provide Council, and the NSW Police Force, with higher quality images and peace of mind,” says Roche.
“These have resulted in better identification capabilities, and have assisted with improving the percentage of incidents being indentified.
Rockdale City Council is already expanding the system to extend along the Boardwalk area, in line with changing security needs.
SNP Security has installed integrated CCTV Street Surveillance systems for many local Councils, including Melbourne and Gold Coast Councils. Detailed case study information can be found on our website.
