From February GovernmentNews will be a bi-monthly magazine – that is one edition every two months. To keep our supporters closely informed of the changes we are currently undergoing, we have run some questions by our editor Rob O’Brien as to what advertisers and readers can expect next year.
WHY ARE YOU CHANGING FROM A MONTHLY?
Government News as a magazine has always had a loyal readership who value our product. Our readership survey for 2009 told us that more than 60 per cent of our readers have been in government for more than 10 years; more than 90 per cent rated our content as informative and relevant.
Our focus in 2010 is to continue providing the public sector with up-to-the-minute news through our website and e-bulletins, and to offer more as a bi-monthly. With all the activity in the public sector and the challenges being experienced by all levels of government, we want to give readers the in-depth, informative product they expect from Government News.
Moving to a bi-monthly format will mean more valuable content, more expertise and insight at a time when it is needed most. The new magazine will be an A4 design; it will be more professional in look and will contain top contributors from inside and outside of government.
Each edition will include two special features from security, ICT, green procurement, fl eet management, public works & infrastructure and workplace health & safety. On top of this, advertisers will have opportunities to sponsor sections of the magazine.
WHEN WILL THE FIRST EDITION BE OUT?
Our February-March 2010 edition will be out before the end of February. There will be six editions each year. The new deadlines are included in our 2010 Media Kit. Our bi-monthly launch will focus heavily on some of the hot button issues affecting governments as we move into the new decade.
WHAT ABOUT EVENTS?
In March, the Intermedia Group will host the Local Government Investment Conference. It will be held in Sydney and will focus on the fallout of the financial crisis, its impact on local government financial management and the lessons to be learned.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER CHANGES ADVERTISERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF?
Yes. Our management section, which has previously contained a study tour, a Q&A interview and articles on management issues in government, will now include a ‘spotlight on’ a council. For each issue we’ll be contacting local government decision makers to find out what challenges councils are confronting on a daily basis.
WHAT DO YOUR READERS SAY?
From our survey, which is included in our media kit, our readers want a product that is informative and can address the day-to-day issues that the public sector faces. In 2010, our objective is to deliver a product that continues to meet our readers’ needs.
