Keep up with councils' water saving projects
A new website is to allow NSW communities to monitor councils' water saving efforts.
The website, launched as part of the $22 million Water Loss Management Program, features a water saving meter, which indicates the amount of water being saved on a minutely basis, as well as a Water Loss Management Program map with the latest information on related projects across the state.
The program is a joint initiative of the Local Government and Shires Associations of NSW and the Water Directorate, partially funded through the Federal Government’s Water Smart Australia Program.
The meter currently points to 575,000 litres a day, while the number is expected to increase significantly with a number of projects about to commence.
President of the Local Government Association Cr Genia McCaffery said the website would be an effective means for the community and industry to keep up with water saving projects.
”Water management is a critical issue in our communities and councils are responding by delivering and implementing new policies and initiatives aimed at saving water,” Cr McCaffery said.
President of the Shires Association Cr Bruce Miller said the biggest beneficiaries of the online resource would be rural and regional communities.
"Drought continues to have a severe impact on our residents, our farmers and their families,” Cr Miller said.
"The new website is an important tool for not only promoting the importance of water saving ideas, but also showing our community how hard their councils are working to help alleviate the problem.”
