Time for action: 2020 Final Summit Report released

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has launched the Final Report of the Australia 2020 Summit, which entails the debates and ideas put forward during the summit process.

In addition to around 1,000 delegates who attended the two-day summit at Parliament House last month, over 500 summit-related events were held to facilitate nation-wide discussions.

“We wanted to shake the tree in free and open forums and see what good ideas fell out, ideas that will make Australia an even better place in the future,” Mr Rudd said.

Some of the ideas to be considered for a feasibility study include a comprehensive review of Australia’s taxation system, national clean energy portfolio of several flagship projects, preventive health agency, and initiatives to improve the understanding of rural Australia.

With the inquiry into the taxation system already underway, Mr Rudd said the task of Government now is to consider and respond to the recommendations identified in the report by the end of this year.

“The release of the Final Report does not signal the end of discussions and debate.”

“The Government has maintained throughout this process our support for concrete ideas that set out a practical approach to nation-building, and this will be reflected in our response,” he said.
