Medicare Australia cleans up with environmental award

Medicare Australia has been rewarded for its commitment to environmental management, taking out the prestigious LearnX Asia Pacific 2008 ‘Green Training Award – Learning with the Environment in Mind’.

The award was given for a blended E-Learning training package developed by Medicare Australia promoting environmental awareness among its 5000 staff.

Medicare Australia beat many commercial and government organisations to be awarded the first prize, shared with AMP and SAI Global.

Since Medicare Australia established its Environmental Management Unit (EMU) in 2006, it has been proactively implementing environmental initiatives, including paper, water, energy and waste saving processes, which have produced positive change.

“It’s very pleasing to see Medicare Australia win this award. Innovative training and environmental management are areas in which we’ve invested a significant amount and this recognition of our efforts is appreciated,” Medicare Australia CEO Catherine Argall said.

"Medicare Australia has proven it’s an environmentally aware organisation, committed to minimising its carbon footprint. By encouraging our people to act locally and think globally through these training packages we are making a difference.

“Environmental benefits aside, organisations can make large cost savings and increase efficiency by using environmental management.”
