Australian War Memorial's multimedia touring technology
The Australian War Memorial says it is the first cultural institution in the world to use a purpose-designed and built multimedia device for museum tours.
The iTour is a palm-sized, multimedia touch screen device that provides an "engaging tour experience of the Commemorative Area", according to Australian War Memorial assistant director Helen Withnell.
The device uses recorded voice and music with images on a touch screen to offer an easy and engaing way to interpret the symbolism of the museum's Roll of Honour and the Hall of Memory, including the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
The iTour costs $3 and was developed by Acoustiguide.
