NSW Minister for Ageing, Kristina Keneally, and Member for Drummoyne, Angela D’Amore, have announced that the NSW Government will convene an event called Ageing 2030 to plan for the opportunities and challenges of an ageing population for the state.
Ms Keneally says the event will be held at Parliament House in October and will “focus on the future of population ageing, as the number of people over 65 in NSW is projected to increase by more than 50 per cent by 2030”.
It will focus on long-term government and non-government planning to develop strategies to be considered as part of statewide action.
Ageing 2030 will focus on specific themes in line with the NSW Government’s State Plan:
* prevention and early intervention;
• liveable homes and communities; and
• social and economic engagement.
There will be a number of public consultations held across NSW to ensure all members of the community can contribute ideas on how existing policies and programs may be adapted to meet these future challenges and opportunities, she says.
“There will be future implications for infrastructure and services including transport, health, community care and housing, all of which will need to be responsive and adapt to the varying and changing needs of a large and growing groups of older people,” Ms Keneally says.
The Ministerial Advisory Committee on ageing will hold consultations in the following locations:
* Parramatta on August 30;
• Central Coast on August 31;
• Queanbeyan on September 3; and
• Coffs Harbour on September 6.
